The first part that I've really been dreading was undertaken today - cutting and prelim assembly of the wall/ceiling structure. The main reason for dread is just not knowing what the sphere I purchased was really like - was it sufficiently smooth inside, could I cut it neatly, had I miss-figured making it so the door wouldn't open far enough, etc. etc.

Although the thickness varied, the interior is nicely smooth and will require no real clean up. The edge where the spherical wall hits the flat front part will require far less feathering with putty than I originally thought, so this should be pretty much a cake walk.

Cutting with a razor saw was a total no-show. This plastic is d**ned tough. Ended up going with a cutting wheel on my dremel. Hadn't wanted to because I can be a klutz and one false move could ruin the part. Phew! I had a steady hand.

The biggest good news is the fit of the door. I had thought I might have to do some trimming and fudging to allow the door to open fully. Needn't have worried.

Note on the photos - the temporary supports block where the control consoles would fit, so they (the consoles) stick out the back a bit. In other test fits I have confirmed that the back of the ceiling will be completely covered by the consoles and rear wall and *should* look seamless.

Stay tuned ...
