From 2001/06 Release of DVD
The new release of the DVD is MUCH clearer than the old one
(enhanced for hi-res TVs, so we get about 30% more information!) and essentially
as bright as the old VHS. This means we get far more information than was
previously possible.
- From Mario
Here are some great shots that Mario59 has provided that show
details far more clearly than before. Yes, Mario assures me that these are
from the DVD - he's done a super job blowing them up and enhancing them.
- Door
1 (1002x628 - 109k) - Of particular note here is the light that
appears at Frank's back. This might also provide illumination for the
placards on the inside of the door.
- Door
2 (224x210 - 5k) - Notice that the innards of the door appear to be
semi-vertical, rather than following the contour of the door.
- Door
3 (1016x570 - 814k) - Nice shot of the top control console in the
door. - New!
1/6/2002
- Commo
Switches (1016x570 - 709k) - Notice the "safety arm" in
front of the switches. At least to my mind, this looked like it was the
base of the console in previous shots. - New!

- Buttons - these three shots show a good cross-section
of the buttons, their heights, and their T shape:
- Buttons
1 (1158x464 - 86k) - inside Discovery, but they are typical.
- Buttons
2 (1280x1024 - 171k) - nice closeup of the triangular console's
buttons - also shows excellent detail of the explosive bolt failsafe
latch.
- Buttons
3 (1280x1024 - 230k) - clean shot of the central-horizontal, and
side consoles.
- Interior - Side View
Composite
(960x452 - 94k)
Similar to Manfred's composite shot, this image is made from the new release
of the DVD. Note that this image has been brightened to bring out the
details. Some of the more interesting things in this shot:
- Better detail of the interface between the protruding
console area and the rear walls (though not as much as I'd hoped).
- The heretofore unknown (at least to me) circular detail
area around the roof-mounted handle. Wow!
- The rear walls come forward much more (closer to 45°
than the 30° I show in the drawings), the side consoles are much
shorter (front-to-back) and much taller (height) than I show in my
current set of drawings.
- The protruding console appears to have a straight upper
edge - the curved appearance appears to come from the shadow it throws
on the interior wall. My guess (and this is ONLY a guess) is that what
we see as the protruding console in the Walker shot is, in fact, a set
of switches on a horizontal-ish console located atop this straight edge.
- Protruding Panel
Protruding
Panel - RIP (960x452 - 58k)
I think I've figured out the confusion of the Protruding Console. There are
some buttons on the newly named Triangular Console that are at a rakish
angle. I believe I've matched them to some buttons in the Walker photo, and
the angle would account for them looking as though they are on a separate,
nearly horizontal console.
